Here in Denmark, we have a tradition that girls receive a ring for their confirmation – their confirmation ring. Often, this is a relatively small and/or delicate piece that suits a young girl. We have made all sorts of rings for her, the confirmation girl, but the one we make by far the most of is the solitaire – that is, the ring with a single stone in it.
Some want it completely simple, while others like a few bubbles around it. Some want it straight, others want a bit of flair to the affair.
And what kind of stone do you put in a ring like that? Naturally, that comes down to personal taste, preference and budget, but we make a lot of rings with what people used to call ”semi-precious stones”. Of course, no gemstone is ”semi”. Either they are gemstones or they aren't – a bit like you can't be a little bit pregnant. Either you're pregnant or you aren't.

The alternative: a necklace
Well, it doesn't strictly have to be a ring – it could also be a lovely pendant, which has the advantage that you don't need to know her ring size before buying the piece of jewellery. Here, we also have some classic designs that return.
Quite small and minimalist: Petite the series includes a small pendant or stud earrings and is available in silver, white gold or yellow gold – all with diamonds. The pendant also looks lovely paired with, for example, a pearl.
For the adventurous: Dragonling – The ultimate I'm-looking-after-you-when-no-one-else-can gift, which makes an immense amount of sense at precisely this juncture in a young girl's life. The classic: Corset – The alternative to the Dagmar Cross in a slightly heavier version than the classic. The small crosses of approx. 2 cm are also made in silver, white gold, and yellow gold. Again, you can combine with various details such as a set stone or an interesting surface.

We sell the most 45 cm chains, but if she is very slender, 40 cm is fine. Some people like the pendant to hang a bit lower, in which case 50 cm is suitable.
A refurbishment of the old confirmation ring
At the other end of the spectrum, I have customers who come to me with their old confirmation rings – rings that were given to them 40 or 50 years ago and now need an adjustment. Most of them are somewhat old-fashioned anyway, but often the stone is quite worn, and it is also not unusual for it to have shrunk a bit in size over the years.
Here is an example of a confirmation ring from the 60s that has been given a new lease of life. The facets of the amethyst were worn completely matte and the design was rather dated and clunky.
I built a new setting for a fresh amethyst and adjusted the shape of the ring to make it more curved and elegant, before soldering beads into the curves. Finally, I set the new amethyst and some small diamonds in the beads. The result was undeniably different from the ring my customer had received many years ago as a confirmation gift, even though it still nods kindly to the original design...
