During the artistic design process, we work closely with you and strive to merge your vision with refined craftsmanship to create a new piece of jewellery with a unique character.
We take on a wide range of handmade jewellery projects, so whether you need rings for parties or everyday, engagement rings, bridal sets, wedding rings, necklaces, bracelets, earrings or other adventurous jewellery, we are ready to wield the tools and create jewellery for the most important moments in your life.
You have the option to include the gold in your new piece of jewellery, making it possible to carry the memories of loved ones with you in the new item. A typical example is wedding rings, where wedding rings from both sides' grandparents or great-grandparents could be incorporated into the new rings. In that case, there will be a certain additional charge.
We credit the value of your old gold, regardless of whether you want it to be part of the new piece of jewellery or not. It works as follows:
First, we'll find out which piece of jewellery you would like and give you a price.
We'll weigh your old gold or silver and find out what carat it is by looking at the stamp and testing it. These are the most common carats:
Gold
333 - is 8k (333 out of 1000)
585 - is 14k (585 out of 1000)
750 - is 18k (750 out of 1000)
Silver
925 - is sterling silver (925 out of 1000)
We can now determine the value of your old gold.
Here we benchmark against New fortune - is one of the companies in Denmark that offers the highest price for old gold and silver. We think this is fair to our customers. Once we have determined the price of your old gold, we deduct this amount from the price of your new jewellery. Please note that you can offset a maximum of 50% of the new jewellery against the value of the old gold.

We only use your old gold in the new jewellery if you specifically request it. This is a costly process for us, which is why there is a surcharge of DKK 800 if we need this particular gold. If there are many stones to be removed from the gold, we charge an hourly rate for the work, after which you get the stones back unless they are part of the new design.
It often makes good financial sense to reuse your old gold to offset labour costs or even build a new piece of jewellery. With silver, it often only makes sense if you have a minimum of 50g, as the price per gram of silver is proportionally much lower than gold (check the daily price at New fortune).
For example, if you have an old 8k ring, but want a piece of 14k jewellery that includes your old ring, we alloy it - that is, we add some fine gold (24k) and melt it together with your gold when it is melted down, so you can make low carats higher and high carats can also be made lower.
All gold used by Castens is in any case recycled – recycled gold that has been sold to gold buyers around the world. This gold is sent to large factories that, under controlled conditions, melt it down and extract pure gold for re-alloying and processing. When we buy gold in the form of, for example, sheet or wire from our suppliers, it is generally gold in Denmark that has been recycled. Mining new gold can have very significant environmental and human consequences, and therefore we fully support reusing the gold that has already been wrested from Mother Earth.
We are happy to reuse stones from your old jewellery - or loose stones that you bring with you. However, in this case, the workshop is not responsible if your own stones are damaged during the setting process. A gemstone that has been worn MAY have hidden cracks that result in it being destroyed when it is set in the new jewellery, although this is very rare. If this does happen, we will of course do our best to find a suitable replacement, which will be added to the final bill. In the unlikely event of an accident, we will always first inform you that a replacement will be needed, giving you the opportunity to choose another alternative should you wish to do so.
Another good way to reuse old gold is by having it redesigned. Here, we take your existing piece of jewellery as a starting point and alter it, usually into something completely unrecognisable. In return, we do our best to retain any engravings that testify that it is indeed the old piece of jewellery that has been redesigned.
