How do you illustrate a cocktail – if it’s to be in the form of a ring? That was the task when I was asked to create a cocktail ring, based on a classic champagne cocktail. It consists of a sugar cube made of brown cane sugar, splashed with a few drops of Angostura bitters and then topped up with champagne.
The result was a large, yet airy ring of gold, with the sugar cube (in the form of a rose-cut brown diamond on the inside of the ring's base) forming the base. From here, the golden lines, like the bubbles in the glass drawn along its sides, twist up around the finger, before popping into small diamonds around the frothy top – a large, baroque freshwater pearl.
The ring was developed in conjunction with the exhibition ”Carats and Cocktails,” which took place at Hotel D'Angleterre's cocktail bar Balthazar in autumn 2023.
